Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a rare, genetic neuromuscular disease caused by the absence of dystrophin, a protein that helps protect muscle cells from the mechanical stress of normal contraction. Without dystrophin, muscle cell membranes become fragile and prone to damage, leading to repeated injury, inflammation, and progressive muscle loss with fat and fibrotic replacement over time. DMD affects approximately 1 in 5,000 live male births and typically presents in early childhood, with progressive weakness that ultimately impacts skeletal muscle, respiratory function, and the heart. Despite advances in genetic and supportive therapies, muscle degeneration continues, highlighting the clear need for new complimentary approaches that address the underlying mechanical vulnerability of muscle cells.

FB-606FB-606 is designed to help protect muscle cells that are easily injured in Duchenne muscular dystrophy. In Duchenne, muscle cell membranes are more fragile and can develop tiny tears during normal movement. These small injuries allow harmful substances, like calcium, to leak into the cell and contribute to muscle damage over time.After FB-606 is given, it travels through the bloodstream. It does not stick to healthy cells. When FB-606 encounters a damaged muscle cell membrane, it temporarily attaches to the injured area and acts like a patch, helping seal the tear and stabilize the cell. This can help reduce further injury and support muscle cell stability.Once the membrane is repaired, FB-606 naturally releases and continues circulating in the body, ready to help repair new areas of damage.
